Getting started

What is Tend for?

Tend is a simple recurring-task tracker. It's built for the things you do again and again — water the plants, pay a bill, change the filter — as well as one-off to-dos. You tell it how often something recurs, and it keeps bringing it back when it's due.

How do I add a task?

Tap the + button in the bottom-right corner. You can also add a task without opening the app first: press and hold the Tend icon on your Home Screen and choose New Task.

Do I need an account or to sign in?

No. Tend works straight out of the box with no account, no email, and no sign-up. Your tasks live on your device.

Everyday use

How do I mark a task done?

Tap the circle on the left of the task. There's a brief one-second pause before it's confirmed — tap again during that moment to cancel if it was a mistake. You can also swipe right on a task to complete it, or use the context menu (press and hold).

I completed something by accident. Can I undo it?

Yes. Completed tasks show an undo arrow — tap it, or swipe right on the task and choose Undo. This restores the previous due date and removes that completion from the log.

What's the difference between "Complete", "Skip", and "Nudge"?

• Complete records that you did it and schedules the next occurrence.
• Skip moves a recurring task to its next occurrence without recording that you did it — handy for a week you're deliberately skipping.
• Nudge pushes the task to tomorrow, leaving everything else unchanged.

Can I add a note to a task?

Yes. Every task has an optional note field you can fill in when creating or editing it. Tasks with a note show a small document icon in the list. You can also attach a one-off note to a specific completion via Complete with Note.

Can I get reminders when a task is due?

Yes. Reminders are off by default — to turn them on, open the ··· menu → Settings and switch on Task Reminders (iOS will ask permission the first time). Once on, Tend reminds you on the day each task is due. Reminders are delivered on this device only — Tend has no servers — and, for privacy on your lock screen, a reminder shows the task's title but never its note.

Can I choose when reminders arrive?

Yes — there's a single reminder time in Settings (for example, 9am) that applies to all your reminders, and Tend notifies you at that time on each task's due day. You get one reminder per task on its due day; Tend won't keep nagging you while a task is overdue.

How do the recurring schedules work?

When you create a task you pick a frequency — daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly — and can repeat every n of those (e.g. every 2 weeks). You can also choose whether the next due date is calculated from the original due date or from when you actually completed it. That second option is useful for things like "water the plant 3 days after I last did", where the clock should start from completion rather than the calendar.

What do the Today / 7 Days / 30 Days tabs mean?

They're just windows onto what's coming up: Today is anything due today or overdue, 7 Days covers the coming week, and 30 Days the coming month. There's also an All Tasks view (via the ··· menu) that shows everything with no date filter.

Can I group my tasks?

Yes. You can create groups (e.g. Home, Work, Garden) and assign tasks to them. Tasks are organised by group by default. You can switch to sorting by date instead from the ··· menu's Sort By option.

Where do my completed tasks go?

Recurring tasks reappear at their next due date once completed. On the Today view, things you've finished today collapse into a Completed Today section at the bottom. There's also a Completion Log (in the ··· menu) showing your recent completion history across all tasks.

A one-off task disappeared after I completed it — is that a bug?

No, that's intended. One-off tasks don't recur, so once done they drop out of your active lists to keep them tidy. You can still find them in the Completion Log.

Managing tasks

What's the difference between archiving and deleting?

• Archive tucks a task away out of your active lists but keeps it (and its history). Archived tasks live in Archived Tasks in the ··· menu, and you can restore them any time. It's reversible.
• Delete removes a task and its completion history for good. This can't be undone.

If you're not sure, archive it.

Can I edit a task after creating it?

Yes — tap a task to open it, then tap Edit. You can change its title, note, frequency, group, and scheduling. Swiping left on a task also offers a quick Edit action.

Can I clear my completion history?

Yes. Open the Completion Log and use Clear Log. It asks you to confirm first, because it can't be undone.

What Tend doesn't do (yet)

We're keeping Tend deliberately simple. A few things people often expect that it doesn't currently do. (Reminders are supported — see "Can I get reminders when a task is due?" above.)

Do my tasks sync across my devices / to iCloud?

No. Tasks are stored only on the device you created them on. There's currently no iCloud sync, no cloud backup, and no way to move tasks to another phone. (A standard iPhone backup will include the app's data as part of your device backup.)

Is there an iPad, Mac, web, or Apple Watch version?

Not yet — Tend is an iPhone app for now.

Can I set a specific time of day for a task?

Not per task — tasks are scheduled by day, not by hour. You can, however, set a single reminder time in Settings that applies to all your reminders (e.g. "remind me at 9am on the day things are due"). There's no per-task "remind me at 3pm for this one".

Can I share tasks or collaborate with someone else?

No. Tend is a personal, single-user app — there's no sharing, assigning, or shared lists.

Is there a search box?

Not currently. You can browse by group, date, or the All Tasks view, but there isn't a keyword search yet.

Can I add subtasks, priorities, tags, or attachments?

No. Tend keeps each task to a title, an optional note, a group, and a schedule. There are no checklists/subtasks, priority levels, tags (beyond groups), or file/photo attachments.

Can I reorder tasks manually?

No. Ordering is automatic — by group then title, or by date, depending on your sort setting. There's no drag-to-reorder.

Troubleshooting

I lost my phone / got a new one — can I get my tasks back?

Only if they were included in an iPhone backup (iCloud or computer) that you restore onto the new device. Because Tend doesn't sync to the cloud on its own, there's no way to recover tasks from Tend's side if there's no device backup.

A task shows as overdue but I'm sure I did it — what happened?

Completing a task is what advances it. If it still shows overdue, it likely wasn't marked complete (for example, the one-second confirmation was cancelled, or the swipe didn't register). Tap the circle to complete it now.
